Council awards $1.45M asphalt street rehabilitation package to Brent Bell

Council approved awarding the 2023 GO bond asphalt street rehabilitation contract to Brent Bell Construction for a combined base bid and alternate of $1,446,661.87, staff said Aug. 4.
Councilman East explained the package covers repairs and mill-and-overlay work on 12 streets across multiple wards; Clipper Court requires full-depth reconstruction. Staff said the low responsive bid exceeded the original construction budget by $20,661.87 and proposed covering the gap using remaining funds from a concrete-streets panel replacement account. Brent Bell’s recent work in the region and apparent bonding capacity were cited in staff recommendations.
Council approved the award by voice vote. Staff said the contract will move forward with standard procurement steps and construction scheduling.
