Bartlesville City Council voted Aug. 4 to award the deck reconstruction contract for the Sunset Bridge over Butler Creek to Bright Lighting Inc., which submitted the low base bid of $2,014,369.32.
Councilman Kirkpatrick described the project as part of the 2022 general-obligation bond program and said the base bid includes deck reconstruction and guardrail improvements. Staff noted an ad-alternate for a parallel pedestrian bridge was included in some bids but recommended awarding only the base bid because a trail grant and parks funding expected to pay for the pedestrian structure have not yet been finalized.
Project engineer Steve Roper and staff said construction could begin as early as September with a six-month flexibility window for contractor scheduling, and noted that if grant funding materializes the pedestrian bridge may be rebid or included under future contract terms. Council approved the motion to award the base bid as recommended.
Council indicated continued interest in adding the pedestrian facility when funding becomes available; staff said the design will remain ready so the project can be restarted without returning to preliminary design work.
