The City Commission on Sept. 8 approved a resolution authorizing the mayor to purchase vehicles for the Public Works Department, the stormwater utility and Citizens Independent Transportation Trust functions, and amended the Public Works allocation to $225,000.
Scott Mendelsberg, the city finance director, said on the record, "We have $340,000 in the budget for the 4 vehicles," and commissioners discussed that some existing vehicles will be declared surplus. President Villanue moved to increase the Public Works portion to $225,000 (adding $45,000); Commissioner Vallejo seconded the motion. After discussion about needs and procurement prudence, the motion passed by voice and roll-call votes.
Deputy remarks noted staff will review available vehicles and avoid specialty equipment unless necessary; current planning indicates procurement of four vehicles with surplus equipment listed next year.
Next steps: Finance and Public Works will finalize specifications, solicit or evaluate vendor quotes as appropriate, and report back to the commission if procurement choices materially change the authorized amount.
