Ammon Barker, the county attorney, read statistics from his office and emphasized community resources: he reported that over the last three years the office filed roughly 800 domestic-violence felony charges and about 687 misdemeanor domestic-violence cases; filings rose in the last year. Victim-service organizations attending the meeting urged survivors to contact local resources, noting 24/7 crisis lines and local emergency shelter and counseling services.
The board voiced unanimous support for survivors and for local partner organizations (Victim Witness Services, Northland Family Help Center, Sharon Manor and others). Chair Horstman called on the public to participate in awareness events and to support local nonprofit programs that assist survivors.
What comes next: the board and county agencies said they will continue outreach and promote the month's events and services; the proclamation will be used in public awareness efforts.
