Mayor Jane Houston proclaimed October 2025 as Arts and Humanities Month, noting the city’s growing public-art collection and the role of live music, theater and festivals in making San Marcos an arts destination.
Trey Hat, arts coordinator, invited the public to the SMARTs Awards presentation at the Price Center and said the event is free and open to the public. Hat named honorees and organizations to be recognized, including Debonga Banerjee and Jeffrey Brown, as well as contributions by Mothership Studios and Tantra. The mayor said the arts commission will make annual arts-and-cultural grant allocations this month to organizations and creators.
City staff encouraged attendance at arts events and outlined the awards and grant schedule; no formal funding vote took place during the proclamation.
