Board to record funding for five Vienna firefighters in FY26 budget

County budget staff briefed the Forsyth County commissioners Sept. 22 on an amendment to the FY26 budget ordinance to record revenue and expense for five Vienna Fire Department firefighter positions.
Casey Balzer of the county budget office said the board previously approved funding for five additional firefighters as county employees, and the firefighters’ tax district will reimburse the county for salaries and benefits. Balzer said the reimbursement revenue was overlooked when the FY26 ordinance was drafted, and the amendment is intended to record that revenue and match the previously approved positions.
Balzer reported the total cost for the five positions as $334,486, or $66,897 per position. Commissioners were invited to ask questions; none opposed the technical fix. The amendment will appear on the Sept. 25 meeting agenda for formal action.
