Commissioners honor interns, community leaders and approve multiple board appointments

The Cumberland County Board of Commissioners used part of its Nov. 3 meeting to present community recognitions and to approve routine appointments.
The board recognized the county’s fifth Ignite internship cohort, which Human Resources Director Dominique Hall said attracted 88 applications and produced 14 interns placed across county departments for a 10‑week fall term; commissioners congratulated the students and encouraged them to apply for the next cohort.
Chair read a proclamation recognizing Native American Heritage Month and invited Lumbee representatives to accept the proclamation. Vice Chairwoman Sheryl Jones presented a proclamation honoring Dr. Debbie Jenkins for her 32 years of service as chair of the Cumberland County Child Fatality Prevention Team; Jones detailed Jenkins’ leadership in developing fatality review protocols, data‑sharing agreements and prevention resources. The board also presented a Veterans Day proclamation noting an estimated 53,000 veterans in Cumberland County and invited members of the Cumberland County Veterans Council to accept and announce a missing‑man table ceremony to follow at 11:00 a.m.
On appointments, the board moved and approved nominees to several county boards and trusts. Names placed on the record include Joseph Stevens and Lucina Yarbrough for an animal services vacancy, city‑resident nominees Britney Lee, Jill Parker and Brian Taylor for city‑resident slots, FTCC trustee nominees Jason Fick and Dr. Vicky Andrews, and Fireman's Relief Fund appointments Joseph McDaniel (Vander) and Mitchell Johnson (Pierce’s Mill). The board approved the appointments by voice vote.
