The council approved a DPW request to purchase bulk road salt from Detroit Salt Company for the 2025–26 season in an amount not to exceed roughly $93,892 under the existing contract.
DPW staff explained the ordering process (orders placed in spring based on expected need), storage capacity (2,400 tons), minimum‑take and overtake provisions, and that approximately 50% of the salt used on 8 Mile is reimbursed by MDOT — a revenue offset the DPW director agreed to include in future agenda budget impacts. Staff said the purchase request corrects an earlier oversight when a prior order did not come to council.
Council voted to approve the purchase by roll call. No additional contract amendments were made at the meeting.
