County to consider several consent agenda contracts, public health grants and mediation center renewal

County officials previewed several consent agenda items and public hearings for the next meeting, covering mediation services, treasurer contracts and public-health grant activity.
Kathy Funk Baxter said the Mediation Center contract is on the agenda for a two'year renewal at $81,000 total; the amount was adjusted after updating insurance requirements. Treasurer Deborah Gardner recommended extending the Government Portfolio Advisors contract (investment advisor) and a bond counsel agreement (special deputy prosecuting attorney) that support the county's debt and investment work.
Gina James of Health and Human Services explained a small amendment to the Department of Health consolidated contract that adds $750 for perinatal hepatitis B work and previewed a Public Health Infrastructure Grant (approximately $200,000 allocation in the program) that could be used for technology and workforce investments, subject to state approval of the county plan. James also outlined two public hearings tied to the community development block grant public services program, which passes funding through to Lower Columbia CAP and is historically used for Meals on Wheels.
Finance and department staff said that the CDBG closeout hearing and the current-year application hearing are scheduled despite odd federal timing and that program income rules may require the county to spend on certain priorities first.
What happens next: those consent items and public hearings are scheduled for action at the next meeting; the board did not take final action on Nov. 3.
