Planning commission finds Eagle Sound subdivision streets meet VDOT standards

The Accomack County Planning Commission voted to recommend that the Board of Supervisors accept two roads in the Eagle Sound subdivision — Bayview Lane and Eaglet Lane — into the Virginia Department of Transportation’s secondary highway system after a 2232 review by county planning staff.
County planner Shanti Ridley told commissioners VDOT inspected both roads and confirmed they meet construction standards and occupancy requirements. Ridley said Eaglet Lane serves three residences and Bayview serves four to five residences, with some homes under construction that will increase occupancy counts.
“VDOT had contacted the county with a request from the Eagle Sound Property Owners Association requesting that Bayview and Eaglet Lane be accepted into VDOT’s secondary system of highways,” Ridley said, and staff recommended the Planning Commission find the request “substantially in accord with the comprehensive plan” under Virginia Code §15.2-2232.
Ridley also advised the commission that county acceptance requires a resolution guaranteeing the right-of-way is not encumbered by covenants or easements and that roadway maintenance by VDOT will commence following acceptance and completion of a guaranteed period.
A commissioner moved and the Planning Commission approved the staff recommendation by voice vote; the recommendation will be sent to the Board of Supervisors for final action and the county must pass the required right-of-way resolution before VDOT maintenance begins.
