Commissioners press staff for reports on smoke shops, nitrous canisters and problem properties

Multiple commissioners raised concerns about retail smoke shops selling nontraditional items. A public speaker who said he visited local shops reported, "They don't have a license to sell it," referring to large nitrous-oxide canisters and other items sold in some stores. Commissioners described seeing large canisters and said youth misuse and illegal racing are among their concerns.
Commissioners asked staff to explore whether additional licensing, ordinance changes or enforcement actions could limit distribution of large nitrous canisters and to provide a report at the next meeting. No ordinance or formal policy change was adopted at the meeting; commissioners requested information to inform any future recommendations to city council.
