Camp Severe organizers set Oct. 21 charrette at Unity Park and seek council support

Jan Willis, representing the Camp Severe project, told the committee the group's 501(c)(3) application is moving forward and that organizers submitted a proposal to Leadership Greenville. Willis said organizers will hold a stakeholder charrette at the Unity Park welcome center on October 21, starting around 5:30 p.m. and running to about 7 p.m., and asked council members to attend or send a representative.
"We are waiting on our IRS nonprofit status, which should be completed in a few weeks," Willis said, and added that once the 501(c)(3) is finalized the group will begin fundraising and outreach. Willis asked anyone interested to provide names for the invitation list and said the project is exploring options for a permanent presence such as a park or monument within the county.
The committee recorded the request during public comment; no formal council action was taken during the meeting.
