The Wake Forest Board of Commissioners approved several routine and substantive items during the Sept. 30 meeting, including a multi-item consent agenda and a traffic ordinance, and heard an informational planning presentation.
Consent agenda: By motion and unanimous vote the board approved the consent agenda, which included: A) surplusing the badge and service weapon carried by Sergeant Charles Babson; B) approval of the Wake County Emergency Operations Plan and mutual aid agreement; C) execution of settlement documents related to the national opioid litigation; D) approval of closed-session minutes related to the opioid litigation; and E) removal of Jordan Banks from the planning board.
Traffic ordinance: Tim Watson, the town engineering director, recommended adding no-parking locations on Sharon Farms Avenue to improve sight distance around a curve and at a commercial driveway. The board moved, seconded and approved the ordinance unanimously.
Zoning hearing continuance: Patrick Grady, development services manager, said the applicant for legislative case RZ 24-07 requested a continuance to the Nov. 6 work session to allow a roadway-capacity study of a back edge road; the board agreed to continue the public hearing and accepted brief public comment.
Planning informational: Senior planner Tim Richards presented the Wake Union Villas site master plan (addressed as 12737—12753 Wake Union Church Road), a 4.57-acre proposal for a 64-unit senior apartment building (three stories, about 77,000 sq. ft.) with substantial open space, buffers and riparian protections. Richards noted the presentation is informational only and no board vote was required per the town attorney.
What happens next: The continuance for RZ 24-07 is scheduled for Nov. 6 for staff to evaluate the requested roadway study. Consent items and the no-parking ordinance are effective per town process; the site master plan will proceed through required review steps.
