Sumner City Council spent the bulk of its Aug. 25 study session reviewing options for annexing portions of the city—s urban growth area (UGA) after a formal approach from Pierce County.
"The only reason why we are here tonight is because the county has asked us to consider annexing our UGA," Development Director Ryan Windisch said as he opened the presentation, outlining three primary areas under consideration: the East Hill (Northeast UGA), a West UGA that would connect the city—s detached cemetery area, and a Southeast UGA near the SR 410 interchange where developer Terragon already owns much of the land.
