The Westville Town Council unanimously approved overtime pay to support emergency medical responder training for town public-safety staff, and heard the department’s monthly activity report.
Councilmember Albert moved to authorize overtime for EMR and medical training through Sept. 27, 2025; the motion was seconded by Missus Diehl and passed 5-0. Officials said the chief deputy and other staff will complete EMR training, which will allow responders to take a more active medical role on scene before ambulance crews arrive.
At the same time, the public-safety report for June showed 258 calls for service, 53 traffic stops, multiple assists for fire and EMS, and several vehicle crashes including two fatal collisions. The department also tested and deployed new vehicle fire extinguishers intended for vehicle fires.
Public-safety staff emphasized managing overtime and shift coverage while delivering the training. The council’s authorization covers overtime specifically tied to EMR training needs; staff said some overtime would be straight time and intended to address vacant shift coverage during training periods.
The council recorded the vote as unanimous and directed the department to proceed with scheduling and reporting back as training progresses.
