Casper seeks grant to resurface Paradise Valley Pool slides after record summer usage

Parks and Recreation staff told the City Council on July 29 they will ask the Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board for funding to resurface the slides at Paradise Valley Pool.
"Last summer alone, we saw approximately 4,372 visits at the PV Pool," Nick Lipps, parks staff, told the council as he described the resurfacing request. Lipps said the slide in question was built in 2007 and industry practice calls for resurfacing about every 10 years to maintain speed and rider safety.
Lipps said the joint powers grant process prioritizes projects that serve youth and the broader community. Councilors asked whether the grant would cover both slides; staff confirmed the requested amount would cover both slides. Staff also said the Natrona County Recreation Joint Powers Board decision will occur on Sept. 12 and that the city is seeking council direction to submit the application.
Next steps: staff will submit the application to the Joint Powers Board and await the board’s Sept. 12 decision; if successful, resurfacing would be scheduled as part of parks capital work.
