Wayne honors two officers for life‑saving responses; new firefighter sworn in

The Wayne City Council recognized two public‑safety officers for life‑saving actions and administered an oath to a newly hired firefighter at its Aug. 18 meeting.
A department presenter recounted that on Sept. 15 Officer Cannon (presenter referenced) performed CPR on a woman identified in the audience as Miss Cook, restoring a pulse after the woman went into cardiac arrest. On June 16 Officer Herrera and a partner responded to a choking infant on Winifred Street; the presenter said Officer Herrera’s quick actions restarted the child’s breathing. Both officers were honored with plaques and family members were invited forward for photographs.
In the same meeting the council administered the oath of office to Firefighter Anthony Davila. The oath was recited and affirmed with the words, “to the best of my abilities, so help me God.”
Council members offered public thanks to the officers and congratulated the new firefighter. “Thank you very much,” the mayor said after the presentations, acknowledging the presence of survivors and families.
