Council adopts resolution urging voluntary UL battery safety standards for micromobility devices

"Underwriters Laboratories certifies batteries and electronics of all types, and it is the gold standard for safety," the sponsor said while urging voluntary compliance. Council President moved to suspend Rule 3-7 and adopt the resolution immediately; the suspension was approved, a roll-call vote was conducted and the resolution was adopted.
The roll-call recorded affirmative responses from members present, and the Clerk announced the motion approved and the resolution adopted. The resolution is a formal statement of council position; it does not by itself create an enforceable local mandate but signals the council’s expectation that industry actors follow recognized safety testing.
