Vigo County commissioners approve minutes, $5.1M claims docket, auditor contract and convey property to county development corporation

Commissioners revisited an auditor contract for Lau. Staff reported an existing master contract governs the arrangement and recommended moving forward; commissioners approved the contract.
Commissioner Schweitzer presented a quitclaim deed to convey a county property to the Vigo County Community Development Corporation so the CDC can negotiate a sale to private buyers identified in the discussion as Tim and Kelly Draper; the sale price and final terms were not specified at the meeting. The board moved, seconded and approved conveying the parcel to the CDC, and staff were instructed to prepare the deed.
Highway Engineer Larry Robbins provided updates on paving projects, ARPA‑funded culvert replacements across the county (17 large culverts), the Riley Spur trail and Ray Park loop work funded by a trails grant, and land acquisition and contracting steps for the Clinton Road project with construction anticipated to start in 2026.
Public comment included an update from William "Billy" Caldaro, the new veteran service officer, who said the Veterans Day parade will be Nov. 11 at 10 a.m. and announced a Veterans Museum dedication of a Vietnam veterans room on Veterans Day.
