Bryan ISD reports CTE enrollment gains and new industry partnerships

Laura King, Bryan ISD's director of Career and Technical Education, updated the board on a districtwide expansion of CTE courses and growing student enrollment during the Nov. 3 meeting.
King said the district has strategically increased course offerings at each high school and added middle-school level CTE at Aspire Academy to create smoother pathways toward high-school endorsements and postsecondary credentials. She reported CTE enrollment was "up more than 800 seats districtwide" this year and highlighted that MC Harris has 185 students enrolled in CTE with 63 concentrators and 12 completers. King also said the district has already placed dozens of students at Bryan High, Rudder or CTEK and that those numbers continue to tick upward.
King described strengthened partnerships with Blinn College, Texas A&M and the Texas Workforce Commission to expand dual-credit and credentialing opportunities. She noted recent discussions with an A&M Semiconductor Institute to develop a clear pathway from Bryan ISD through higher education into semiconductor careers. King added that teachers are securing foundation grants to buy equipment and that the district's Brazos Valley Career Demo—a lower-cost local contest created by teachers—doubled participation to more than 80 students and connected industry partners to classroom programs.
Trustees asked about contest logistics, public access and how bond propositions might support CTE facilities. King said bond projects include lab overhauls, equipment replacement and potential new CTEC facilities; she offered to provide additional scheduling details on the career demo via the district's Facebook page.
