The Columbus City Council on Nov. 3 authorized advertising the sale of several city-owned parcels and adopted an ordinance vacating an alley adjoining lots in Block 74.
Committee reports from the Public Property, Safety and Works Committee recommended vacating the alley in Block 74 (north of Twelfth Street between vacated Fifteenth and Sixteenth Avenues); the council adopted the committee report and later moved to suspend the rules and read Ordinance 25‑18 by number only. Council then voted to adopt Ordinance 25‑18, which vacates the alley adjoining Lots 1–4 and Lots 5–8, Block 74, Original City of Columbus, Platte County, Nebraska.
Council also authorized engineering staff to advertise the sale of Lots 1–4 and the adjacent vacated alley in Block 74 and separately authorized advertising the sale of Lots 6 and 7 in Block 117 (north of Tenth Street between 20 Fourth and 20 Fifth Avenues). Engineering will prepare advertisements and establish minimum sale prices; interested buyers may submit bids under the advertised parameters.
Each authorization and the ordinance adoption passed by voice vote (counts not specified). The ordinance adoption was completed under the council’s motion to suspend rules and read the ordinance by number only.
Next steps: engineering will publish sale notices with minimum sale prices and accept bids; the city will proceed under the adopted ordinance to vacate the specified alley.
