Activities Director Henderson presented two recommended grant applications from the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) Foundation and asked the board to approve resolutions supporting Form A and Form B submissions.
Henderson said Form A is an annual general grant typically split among qualifying schools and used for items such as uniforms, equipment and transportation. Form B supports targeted projects such as leadership initiatives, health and safety training, and other specific activities; in past years the district has asked for $5,000 but fundraising and other activities often supplement the request.
On Form B Henderson described proposed uses including an additional AED for Columbia Academy (indoor units typically run $1,000—$2,000; outdoor weatherproof cabinets $3,000—$4,000), impact concussion training, the Positive Coaching Alliance leadership event, and possible base-camp ropes-course leadership training.
The board asked whether priorities are ranked; Henderson said the list is not strictly prioritized and noted fundraising within the activities department often covers amounts beyond the foundation cap. The board voted to approve a resolution supporting the Form A application and then approved the Form B resolution by roll-call vote.
Henderson thanked the board for approving the submissions and for ongoing support of student activities and safety.
