The Bay City Commission voted unanimously to approve a resolution granting Acrocast Inc. a 12‑year industrial facilities tax exemption certificate valued at $170,838 for properties listed at 1837 and 1899 First Street.
During a public hearing, resident Paul Kleino asked whether the project had undergone an environmental review and whether the expansion could pose noise or other risks to nearby residents. City staff and commissioners said the city does not require an environmental impact study for a project of this size and that the planned expansion is primarily storage with robotic equipment rather than the storage of hazardous chemicals.
Commissioners who visited the facility described the operation as a low‑volume foundry and noted the company’s investments in equipment such as a shell‑molding machine, which staff and commissioners characterized as unlikely to create significant environmental risk. Several commissioners encouraged colleagues to tour the site before voting.
Commissioner Runberg moved to adopt the resolution and Commissioner Coakley seconded; the clerk called the roll and recorded a unanimous vote in favor of the exemption.
The approval allows Acrocast Inc. to claim the 12‑year exemption under applicable state law; the commission discussion did not identify any special conditions attached to the certificate at the time of the vote.
