Denison — The Denison City Council on Sept. 2 tabled action on a proposed turnkey restroom construction and installation contract at Munson Park after council members requested a detailed cost breakdown.
Amanda Parsons, the city’s parks and recreation director, told council that the contract price would reflect $190,265 to include required bonding for the project. Parsons described the facility as two unisex restrooms with a 5-foot front porch and a storage chase; she provided dimensions and a slab size after council requests, saying the concrete slab would be 274 square feet and the building footprint about 21 by 15 feet.
Councilmember Josh Massey questioned the unit cost, saying, "That's about $850 a square foot to build 4 bathrooms," and asked whether sewer, lift station work and other infrastructure were included. Parsons said the contractor will build the slab, connect utilities and provide a warranty, and confirmed a lift station and material runs were part of the infrastructure scope.
After discussion, a motion to table the item passed. The council set a date certain of Monday, Sept. 15 at 6:00 p.m. for the item to return with a detailed cost breakdown, including bonding and infrastructure costs.
The tabling preserves the option for council to approve, amend or reject the contract after members review the requested information.
