Council approves HUD continuum-of-care grant and CDBG contracts, cites federal shutdown risk

Council approved an ordinance authorizing the mayor to accept continuum-of-care planning grant funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development totaling $407,955 and to allow authorized officials listed in ESNAPS to enter necessary contracts. Councilman Fusco described the award as a pass-through planning and reporting grant for the Summit County continuum-of-care partnership and urged prompt passage because of a "possibility of a federal shutdown." "We request passage this evening as there is a possibility of a federal shutdown looming," he said.
Separately, the council authorized the director of Planning and Urban Development to enter into contracts with nonprofit organizations to deliver public services under the city's consolidated plan for 2025 using Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. The stated focus areas included infant mortality prevention, public safety programming, financial empowerment centers and information and referral services.
Council also approved authorizations allowing the mayor or his designee to enter contracts without bidding for procurement of six vehicles for the Akron Municipal Court and placed several public-service and public-works items on the consent agenda for routine processing.
