Jeff Corleo, water resources director, said the deliverables will allow staff to view assets in three dimensions, place telemetry accurately and link scanned geometry to the City Works asset-management platform so preventive maintenance inspections and tasks can be automatically triggered. “It’s very effective at that,” Corleo said as he described how point-cloud scans create precise dimensions and enable virtual walkthroughs of facilities.
Corleo noted the actual scanning is relatively fast but post-processing, tagging and integration into the asset system require substantial specialist effort. He said the city vetted multiple vendors and selected NV5 through coordination with City Works and believes NV5’s deliverables meet the city’s needs at the proposed price.
Council members asked about CAD/BIM workflows and how the scanned data could be transformed for future projects; Corleo said the data will be converted through intermediate formats into AutoCAD and City Works-compatible assets.
