Platte County approves state-funded expansion of pretrial services; program now monitoring 44 people

The Platte County Commission on Aug. 11 unanimously approved acceptance of a state grant to expand the county's pretrial services program.

Alyssa Collins, circuit clerk, introduced agenda item 2025CO110 and the county's pretrial representative described the award, saying the state provided a larger budget for the program this year "to increase, not only salary, but also to increase professional development and continue the program." The presenter said the program is "growing very rapidly" and reported the county is "up to 44 individuals that we are currently monitoring."

Commissioners praised the program's early results. The chair said, "this program is very well received. We're very excited about it. It seems like a real step in the right direction of just making sure that we're making all the right decisions and people are released and the right people are not released." The board then voted 3-0 to approve the grant award.
