Students report successful start to school year; senior-sunrise garners local TV coverage

Lana Brown, student council president at Abington Senior High School, said the school welcomed the Class of 2029 and hosted its largest-ever Senior Sunrise event. Hannah Ku, a member of the Abington Middle School student-council executive board, reported that the district welcomed about 615 sixth-graders with the WEB program and more than 100 seventh- and eighth-grade peer leaders assisting with team-building and logistics. Ku said middle-school clubs and service projects, including the TADA (Teams Against Drugs and Alcohol) program, will resume this year.
Communications coordinator shared a short video clip of 6ABC’s coverage of first-day events, noting the broadcast began at 5:30 a.m. on Sept. 2 and included interviews from Roslyn Elementary and Abington Senior High. The clip emphasized community traditions and strong attendance.
Board members and administrators praised staff and volunteers for organizing orientation activities and noted the value of peer leadership in easing student transitions. The presentations concluded with encouragement for student leaders to report back to the board throughout the year.
