Woodbridge opens public hearing on $8.5 million Stafford Road sewer bond

The Woodbridge Township Council on Aug. 12 opened and then closed a public hearing on a bond ordinance to fund sanitary‑sewer upgrades along Stafford Road and surrounding neighborhoods, authorizing up to $8,500,000 for the Stafford Road sanitary sewer improvement project.

Mayor (unnamed) told the council the work responds to flooding and underdesigned sewer pipes in older neighborhoods including New Dover, Route 27 and Magnolia. The mayor said Colliers Engineering completed the study and prepared the project estimates, and the township is now preparing to advertise the work for public bid.

A member of the public asked whether the project was related to new development and who prepared the cost estimate. The mayor replied the project is not driven by development and that Colliers Engineering provided the estimates. With no further public comment, the council moved to close the public hearing and voted to adopt the ordinance and submit it to the mayor for approval as required by law.

The council advanced the ordinance on second reading and followed the normal two‑reading process for bond ordinances before bidding. The ordinance was described as a capital funding measure for a multi‑neighborhood sewer rehabilitation.

The next procedural step is formal submission to and signature by the mayor; the council said the work will then be advertised for bids. The council did not provide a construction schedule or a detailed funding breakdown at the meeting.
