Boys & Girls Club of Owen County presents new school sites, low-cost programming and $1.8M campaign

Brandy Hamilton, Owen County community director for the Boys & Girls Club, introduced the club's operations and asked commissioners to help spread awareness of its programs for school-age children.
"We actually opened last May, 05/28/2024," Hamilton said, describing a main site at 2141 Shepherd Patrick Road and recent school-site openings at Gosport Elementary and Patricksburg Elementary to cover all four county elementary schools. She told the board the club provides after-school care for kindergarten through 12th grade, is open every day after school until 7 p.m., and runs daily summer programming from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Hamilton said membership is low-cost to remove financial barriers: "We only charge $20 a year, the whole school year." She reported average daily membership at about 60 during the school year and about 70 during the most recent summer, and cited partnerships with Purdue Extension and Boston Scientific volunteers for programming such as cooking and Spanish clubs. Hamilton also said the club recently wrapped a five-year "Great Futures Founders" campaign that raised $1,800,000 and that the organization relies on community donations for ongoing funding.
Commissioners asked about outreach materials; Hamilton said she had flyers and pins to leave with county staff. No funding request or county appropriation was presented at the meeting; the presentation was informational and commissioners thanked Hamilton for the update.
