Woodford County advances flood recovery, approves dry hydrant and moves forward on Buck Run road funds

Chief Melvin Montgomery of the Woodford County Fire Protection District presented an estimate to install a dry hydrant at 3750 Fords Mill Road, including a list of materials and a plan to use volunteer in-house assistance from county staff to lower costs. The court voted to approve the dry hydrant estimate and authorized the county to pay invoices upon receipt; the judge noted the project was budgeted to address dry hydrant needs.
On roads and funding, the court advanced a first reading of Budget Amendment Ordinance 2025-12 to realize $16,000 in unbudgeted receipts for emergency road funds to repair sections of Buck Run Road damaged in the flood. County Attorney said half of the $16,000 (about $8,000) was already in process and the second half would follow upon notice of completion; second reading was scheduled for the next meeting so paving could proceed once the amendment was adopted.
Road supervisor reported on paving and patching priorities including Buck Run, Oregon and Wadsworth roads and thanked crews for timely repairs to culverts and drainage. Recycling staff reported a river sweep that removed over 6 tons of trash and announced a hazardous waste collection day on Sept. 20.
Follow-up actions include outreach to residents about the USDA buyout program once contract conversion occurs and execution of the dry hydrant project per the approved estimate.
