"I priced out a bunch of different sheds," a staff member said, describing options for wood or metal siding, roll‑up doors, walk‑in doors and optional windows and insulation.
Commissioners discussed tradeoffs: metal siding would reduce long‑term maintenance but likely cost more upfront; overhead roll‑up doors add roughly $1,500; prebuilt display models and shipping vary significantly by origin. Staff recommended a metal, overhead‑door design to match courthouse colors where practical and agreed to produce design drawings and firm quotes for the board. "I'll go through and design one, metal overhead door," a staff member said, committing to get designs and pictures to county staff "tomorrow, for sure."
Funding options were debated. County accounting staff reported the custodian budget has about $51,605 originally budgeted, with roughly $18,000 spent and payroll and recent cleaning expenses leaving approximately $12,000 currently available for equipment purchases. Commissioners discussed whether the shed purchase should be charged to maintenance, the general courthouse fund, transferred from reserves, or partially funded with ARPA monies. They directed finance staff to break out ARPA and other fund balances with Travis and to get firm price quotes before authorizing purchase or budget transfers.
Commissioners also asked for a price for a commercial carpet cleaner (staff estimated $3,000–$10,000 depending on model) because custodial staff recommended a carpet cleaner over a vacuum for facility needs. If both items are needed, commissioners asked for costs so they could decide whether to buy one or both now or defer purchases until next budget cycle.
