Cass County signs agreements to inspect licensed daycares and summer food programs

The Cass County Commission on Aug. 20 approved two agreements with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to let county staff perform state-authorized inspections.
Matt, county health staff, told the commission the county is contracted by the state to inspect licensed daycare facilities because the state lacks sufficient inspection staffing. Under the 2025–2028 agreement, staff reported performing roughly 87 inspections last year and receiving reimbursement of $130 for routine inspections, $75 for reinspections and $35 an hour for special circumstances. Commissioners voted 3-0 to approve the resolution.
The commission also approved a separate agreement to allow the county to inspect summer food service and at-risk after-school programs. Matt said the state reimburses up to $1,000 if the county completes about 90% of inspections it requests; last year the state sent fewer than 10 inspection requests, so workload is typically small. That resolution passed unanimously, 3-0.
No one from the public addressed these items during the meeting. The agreements cover routine inspection responsibilities and modest reimbursements; commissioners did not identify additional staffing changes or program expansions in the discussion.
