Emery County approves letter saying it will not impose Green River 'wrap' tax

The Emery County Commission on Aug. 19 approved a letter confirming the county will not impose a recreation/arts/parks ("wrap") tax countywide, a response requested by Green River as the city seeks to renew the local measure.
The chair explained the city needed a county statement confirming the county would not impose the tax so the city's renewal could proceed. "This letter is just a simple letter stating we're not pursuing it," the chair said. Commissioners discussed that the certification applies strictly to the city of Green River and does not necessarily preclude the county from considering similar taxes in the future.
A motion to approve the letter certifying Emery County is not imposing the wrap tax was moved and passed by voice vote.
