Nassau commissioners add 85 parcels, adopt revised CLAM manual and OK drainage easement

The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners on Aug. 20 approved a set of actions to advance the county’s conservation program.
Staff recommended adding 85 parcels identified in Appendix A to the county’s Conservation Land Acquisition and Management (CLAM) priority-projects list; the board adopted the addition consistent with the CLAM committee’s recommendation made July 17, 2025. Commissioner Martin moved to approve Tab Q and the motion passed on voice vote.
The board also authorized the chair to sign a revised Nassau County Conservation Land Acquisition and Management manual and conservation plan dated Aug. 20, 2025. Commissioners said the updated manual will serve as the guiding document for CLAM implementation. Commissioner Martin moved for approval of Tab R, Commissioner Farmer seconded, and the vote was recorded as 5–0.
Separately, the board approved a grant of easement from property owner Mason and Magnolia LLC (official-records citation book 2684, page 883) and authorized the road department to maintain the drainage easement. Commissioner Gray moved the motion with a second from Commissioner McCullough; the motion carried.
Commissioners thanked staff — including Senior Planner Joshua Macbeth — for work on CLAM mapping and noted the parcels added include opportunities to preserve the county’s rural character and areas near Orange Bluff and Cary State Park. No further public comment was recorded on those items during the meeting.
