Amanda (Health Department) briefed the commission on October activities and staff roles, and addressed concerns about WIC amid a federal government funding lull. Amanda outlined October services: hearing and vision rescreens, school visits, flu shot clinics at multiple sites, a teddy-bear clinic, and distribution of more than 1,200 'smile kits' to elementary students. She also announced a fall 'baby sprinkle' event for new or expecting parents and a three‑session 'Cooking Matters' workshop in partnership with K-State Extension.
She introduced health department staff by name and role, including Samantha Blanchett (WIC clerk and billing specialist), Danielle (nurse), Cynthia Frisbie (WIC dietitian), Amber (nurse), and Vicky (WIC coordinator). Amanda emphasized she does not plan layoffs if funding changes and that staff will be reassigned to other duties if necessary.
Commissioners thanked Amanda for the update and expressed support for continuing services while monitoring state guidance.
