Doral backs veterans family-day event and bids farewell to long-serving code director

William (Bill) Watts, chair of the Doral Military Advisory Committee, requested city support and $5,000 to host a Military & Veterans Family Day and Health Fair on Nov. 2 at Doral Glades Park. He outlined logistical needs—use of park space, pavilion, multipurpose rooms, vendor coordination, and outreach—and asked the city to sponsor a table at the US Southern Command Marine Corps birthday ball.
The mayor and several councilmembers expressed support for the event and agreed to make the family-day event a city "signature" event next year. The council approved the $5,000 request to cover food and services for the Nov. 2 event so the board need not return annually to request the same small-dollar funding.
Separately the city recognized Edgar Estrada for 15 years in code compliance. City staff and councilmembers praised Estrada’s responsiveness and public-service ethic; Estrada thanked the council and staff and said he will carry the experience to his next role. The manager and mayor presented remarks and a photo opportunity to mark the farewell.
Council directed staff to coordinate event logistics with the Military Advisory Committee and to process the approved funding through the budget and finance offices.
