Board approves $1.0M-plus CTE equipment package for semiconductor and robotics programs

Dr. Edgar summarized the request to purchase Festo semiconductor and mechatronics kits, Universal Robots hardware for collaborative-robot instruction, and related curricular materials and instructor certification for Hamilton, Arizona College Prep, Perry and other sites. Funding was identified from JTED and CTE allocations; the total was reported as $1,003,685.41.
Trustees asked for details on warranties and what is included in multiple vendor quotes. Janet Harkoff, the district's coordinator of emerging technologies, said the package includes instructor training that will enable local teachers to certify students through industry-recognized credentials (Festo/NC3) and that some elements of the supplier quotes cover hands-on equipment, PD and accessory/support components. Harkoff said instructor certification typically lasts about three years and that certification of the teacher enables students to obtain credentials at no additional cost.
Mr. Heap moved to approve the purchases and Ms. Motson seconded. Following board discussion and staff clarifications about the three quote components (equipment, PD, accessories) and tax calculations, the motion passed; the clerk recorded an abstention.
Board members asked staff to return with warranty periods and a line-item explanation of each vendor quote before equipment deployment to campuses.
