Doral council adopts simplified ticket policy for city events
Summary
On Oct. 8 the Doral City Council approved a streamlined ticket policy intended to centralize distribution of complimentary tickets and replace a complex 2014 policy; the vote passed after divided council discussion on implementation and oversight.
Mayor Christie Fraga proposed a replacement ticket policy to govern distribution and administration of complimentary tickets for city events, saying the older policy from 02/2014 was “complex, long, and really unnecessary.” The council voted to adopt the new policy.
The policy, introduced as Item 9a, consolidates how complimentary tickets are handled and designates the mayor’s office to manage tickets provided by the administration or issued as complimentary. “So we decided to come up with a new ticket policy…which I believe is much more straightforward and understanding,” Mayor Christie Fraga said when presenting the resolution.
Councilwoman Nicole Reynoso moved to approve the new policy; Councilman Pinedo seconded. Roll-call votes recorded Councilwoman Reynoso (yes), Councilman Pinedo (yes), Councilman Corral (no), Vice Mayor Porras (no), and Mayor Fraga (yes); the motion passed. The council cited a need for clarity and for a process that staff and elected officials can reasonably follow.
The move comes as the mayor flagged the city’s amphitheater program ramping up and the need for predictable administrative standards. The ordinance replaces the earlier policy (approved in 02/2014) that council members and staff said had not been consistently followed.
The council did not attach an implementation timeline in the meeting discussion; staff indicated the city attorney assisted with drafting. The mayor said any distribution of complimentary tickets under the new policy would be handled through her office going forward.
