At its Sept. 23 meeting the Whittier City Council unanimously approved a multi-item consent calendar that included several zoning code amendments, a new ordinance on targeted residential picketing and budget resolutions accepting grant funds.
The items read into the record included: - Adoption of Ordinance No. 3,167 approving Zoning Code Amendment (ZCA 2051) to comply with new state laws for accessory dwelling units and junior accessory dwelling units (CEQA exemption stated). - Adoption of Ordinance No. 3,168 approving ZCA 2502 to comply with new state laws for two-unit housing and urban lot splits (CEQA exemption stated). - Adoption of Ordinance No. 3,170 adding Chapter 9.24 on targeted residential picketing to Title 9 (public peace) and establishing distance requirements for targeted residential picketing. - Adoption of Resolution amending the FY 2025-26 budget with a $250,000 supplemental appropriation for temporary staffing services. - Acceptance of California State Library grants: $6,701.59 (Groundwork Grant) and $11,520 (Zip Book grant), and acceptance of $130,000 in other grant funds. - Adoption of a resolution establishing a two-way stop control at Redmond Avenue north/south approaches.
A council member moved approval and the motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote (Warner, Pacheco, Mayor Pro Tem Martinez and Mayor Venatieri voting Aye).
