Board reviews multiple policy updates: domicile, personnel files, medication delivery and field‑trip rooming rules

Cabarrus County Schools staff reviewed a package of policy updates at the Nov. 3 work session, bringing seven policies for first reading and several older items forward for second reading.

For first readings, Dr. Sandy Ward summarized Policy 4.120 (domicile/residence) from the summer 2025 update and said the policy team had been working to make processes easier for families. She described an update to personnel files (listed as "78 20" in the packet) to align public information provisions with new state law and noted the district had posted central office positions and pay information on the district website in compliance with the requirement.

On student medications, Policy 6125 will retain its core provisions but will change the phrase "epinephrine auto injector device" to "epinephrine delivery system" to explicitly include epinephrine nasal sprays, Ward said. Staff also reviewed a transportation/vehicle contracts policy clarifying that contractors who transport district students must conduct criminal history checks for their employees.

For second readings, staff summarized multiple technical and legal‑reference updates, including remote participation and voting procedures during a state‑declared emergency (roll call votes), and noted the field‑trip policy change on sleeping quarters that states students of the same gender may share rooms unless they are family members; any exceptions must be approved by the superintendent or designee.

Board members agreed to place these policy items on the consent agenda for the upcoming business session, except where a member requested action for further discussion.
