Beaumont — The City Council on Nov. 4 approved a new ordinance restricting trucks over 7 tons gross vehicle weight from operating on designated residential streets and creating a $500 administrative citation for violations.
Public Works staff described the ordinance as a continuation of the city’s 2040 General Plan trip-priority framework to protect residential areas and sensitive receptors such as schools and parks. Darren Esherick, the presenting staff member, said the ordinance would improve safety, reduce pavement wear and noise, and provide a clear legal framework for enforcement and outreach. Future signage and outreach will be funded from the Public Works operational budget.
After a brief public-hearing period with no callers, council members asked staff to clarify code references and confirm proposed edits to the ordinance’s attachments. With those modifications noted, council voted to waive the full reading and approve the ordinance and an accompanying resolution establishing the fine. The approval was recorded by roll call with all present members voting yes.
