The Katy Perry Scribe Board approved a motion to move forward with the purchasing process for a parcel adjacent to Midland High School, authorizing staff to seek an appraisal and begin negotiations with property owners.
As a board member described, the authorization "allows Justin and I to begin negotiations and seek an appraisal for the value of the property," after which the district would negotiate with owners and, if successful, work with contractors to develop the site. During the discussion a resident asked about Marmotau Fields; the board clarified "Those fields are on school board property" and said the districts plans were to rebuild athletic facilities there, including a boys complex, once negotiations and approvals are complete.
Board members did not present a project budget or timeline in public other than saying staff would begin the appraisal and negotiation process. The motion to proceed was approved by voice vote and sent to the full board for final approval of purchase terms as they are developed.
