2 Rivers OKs pet cemetery plots at municipal cemetery as small revenue source

The 2 Rivers City Council on Nov. 3 passed an ordinance allowing the sale of designated pet burial plots at the municipal cemetery as a modest new revenue source.
Parks staff described a proposed 4-by-4-foot plot that may contain up to four cremation containers; the initial plan would offer about 50 spots and use flush, flat markers to avoid additional maintenance burdens. Staff outlined a sample price: a plot ($200), opening and closing fee ($200) and a flat marker ($250) for a total of $650 per plot.
Council discussed placement, potential for future expansion and the goal of keeping the area respectful to the existing cemetery. Staff and council members noted the approach minimizes additional upkeep because markers are mowed over and no irrigation or extra infrastructure would be added.
Council voted to waive reading and adopt the ordinance. Staff said they may revisit rates, expansion and placement details after initial demand becomes clear.
