Supervisors review draft support for Dominion’s underground DC transmission proposal to PJM after stakeholder edits

Fauquier County staff briefed supervisors Oct. 9 on a proposed resolution to send a letter to PJM endorsing Dominion Energy’s exploration of underground high‑voltage direct current transmission as an alternative to new overhead lines.
"So recently, with meetings with Dominion Energy, we have heard about their proposal to PJM for some underground transmission lines, and the board has requested that we put together a letter of support to PJM to consider alternative options to, overhead lines," staff said. The resolution was updated to include language suggested by community stakeholders; staff said they can make further changes this afternoon if the board requests them.
Supervisor (speaker 9) said he had spoken with Julie Bolthouse of PEC and relayed concerns about moving too quickly without a defined route or environmental analysis, asking whether the draft gives the county wiggle room. Staff said edits recommended by Bolthouse were incorporated in the 'further resolve' section and that they were prepared to refine the language further before PJM’s Dec. 1 reading.
One supervisor reserved the right to remove the item from the consent agenda and place it on the regular agenda for further review, indicating some board members may seek fuller discussion this evening.
