Technology services updates: GIS role in remonumentation, CivicRec training and cybersecurity grant deadline

Eric Giddey, Eaton County’s director of technology services, briefed the Ways and Means Committee on a series of technical and interagency initiatives, including an RFP for remonumentation representation, CivicRec adoption for parks reservations, state cybersecurity funding, and vendor migrations that affect county network services.
Eric said Technology Services, Equalization and the Controller’s Office finalized an RFP Oct. 2 to select the county representative on the remonumentation (Riemann) board and that the county’s GIS team will be integral to any updated remonumentation plan to support mapping deliverables. "We feel that it's going to be crucial going forward that we have part of the feedback and input of part of the selection process... as well as the development of any future remonumentation plans for the county," he said.
On cybersecurity, Eric said the county and central dispatch are pursuing the state SLCGP cybersecurity grant; the county has an Oct. 20 deadline for final submission and is leaning toward funding cybersecurity assessments rather than endpoint detection systems because assessments address current needs.
Eric also described efforts to address parks’ CivicRec implementation: staff identified a training gap, set up training initiatives with Parks leadership, and recommended adding AudioEye ADA-compliance checks for the CivicRec site and other county web portals. He said the CivicRec platform should let constituents reserve and pay for park facilities online once training is complete.
Finally, Eric reported the State of Michigan is migrating its connection vendor for court and law-enforcement traffic from AT&T to Lumen; the state installed new equipment in the county data closet and staff are coordinating minimal expected downtime. He added the county has identified several rollover fund requests for FY 24–25 projects that were delayed and will bring those forward for consideration in the coming months.
What happens next: Technology Services will present the updated remonumentation plan and any related RFP results later this calendar year; staff will finalize the SLCGP grant submission by Oct. 20 and continue CivicRec training and ADA compliance work.
