Planning commission recommends rezoning, consolidation for Our Lady of the Sorrows campus

The Homewood City Planning Commission voted to recommend rezoning and to approve a resurvey for the Our Lady of the Sorrows campus at 1730 Oxmoor Road.
Chris Eckroat of Caprion Engineering, representing the parish, said the applications would consolidate multiple campus lots into a single I-2-zoned parcel and called the work “a little bit of housekeeping” to correct legacy lot records, including one lot now covered by a parking deck. Eckroat explained that portions of the campus had previously been the subject of right-of-way vacation work that was never completed and that some lots were recorded separately despite functioning as contiguous property.
Commissioners clarified that the Planning Commission’s role is advisory for rezoning and that any resurvey recordation would be contingent on City Council approval of the rezoning. A motion to approve the rezoning (RZ2510-03) and a companion motion to approve the resurvey (RS25-10-04) were both approved by the commission; the resurvey was approved with the understanding that recording would follow successful rezoning by City Council.
The commission’s recommendations will be forwarded to City Council for final action.
