Fire authority reports heavy EMS workload, awards, and plans sprinkler demo during budget retreat

Dave Kresge of the North County Regional Fire Authority briefed the City Council on second-quarter operations and community programs. He said unit-hour utilization metrics show some units are busier than others and that the authority completed about 1,212 EMS transports in the quarter, with 505 to Cascade, about 404 to Providence and nearly 300 to Skagit Valley hospitals. Kresge noted Station 48 (west side of the airport) ran about 1,289 responses and Station 46 about 777; within city limits the authority’s three transport units performed about 544 transports.
Kresge highlighted awards: American Heart Association Mission Lifeline EMS Gold Award and county-level awards for airway and resuscitation responses. He announced a planned residential sprinkler demonstration trailer to coincide with the city’s budget retreat and described plans to invite neighboring jurisdictions and community members to a short demonstration. He also noted a planned firefighter academy and staffing transitions.
Kresge encouraged council attendance at September 11 memorial activities and mentioned continued community engagement work and planned mobile outpatient treatment vans arriving in North County as part of broader public-health efforts.
