Police report: staffing below authorized FTE and mixed crime trends in Q2

The Arlington Police Department reported 32 of 42 FTEs filled, collaborative investigations with FBI that led to arrests on internet crimes against children, increased use of area cameras in arrests, slight increases in assaults and DUIs and reductions in robbery, vehicle theft and burglaries compared to the previous quarter.
The Arlington Police Department presented its second-quarter report to the council, noting the department currently maintains 32 full-time employees compared with an allotment of 42 FTEs. Police leadership said investigative work in cooperation with the FBI and other jurisdictions led to arrests in Internet crimes against children cases and that use of area camera technology assisted in an armed-robbery arrest.
The department reported mixed crime trends—small increases in assaults and DUIs and decreases in robbery, vehicle theft and burglaries compared with the prior quarter. Staff described recent technology and equipment upgrades countywide and personnel movements including retirements and internal promotions. The police department invited questions and indicated it will continue monitoring trends and staffing levels.
