Kings County approves closures, temporary service and moving contract for Hanford and Lamar libraries

Tanya Russell, library administrator, asked the Kings County Board of Supervisors to approve temporary closures and a moving contract to support a planned renovation of the Hanford and Lamar branch libraries.
Russell said the closures are scheduled from Sept. 15 through Oct. 6, 2025 to allow one week each for packing, moving and setup, and that Hanford library services will operate temporarily at 110 South Eleventh Avenue. The Lamar branch will close for about 12 months and receive twice‑weekly service from the county's mobile library, the Kimbell.
Russell asked the board to approve an agreement with Always Moving (Cal Bennetts) for packing, storage and moving services; she said Always Moving has experience relocating other libraries. "I am respectfully asking you to approve both of these items," Russell said.
Supervisor Joe Neves moved approval; the roll call recorded Joe Neves yes, Richard Veil no, Deborah Boone yes and Rusty Robinson yes, with one supervisor absent. The motion passed.
Board members thanked library staff and offered practical notes about logistics and public notice. Russell said funding and staffing for the temporary arrangements were included in material presented to the board.
